Two Dalit Sisters Burnt Alive By Mob
(December 22, Moradabad, Sri Lanka Guardian) In a shocking incident, two sisters belonging to the Dalit community were allegedly burnt alive in Kothiwal Nagar here by a mob agitating a double murder for which their brother was accused killing a local trader's wife and his eight-year-old daughter. 
 
“In a FIR registered by Rajo, mother of victim girls, she has identified 12 people who were part of the mob; Police have booked the trader and 7 others for murder and under various sections of the prevention of atrocities against SC/ST Act.,” SP (City) Mr Rahul Yadavendra said.
 
According to Rajo, a mob with the intension of retaliation to the alleged involvement of her son,gathered outside their house and set it ablaze. While she escaped unhurt, her daughters Gita (22) and Monu (20) were burnt alive. The victims' brother Rakesh, who worked as a sweeper here,has been accused in the case of the murder of a local trader’s wife and her 8-year-old daughter
for robbery on 9 December.
 
While Rakesh is absconding, the police have arrested his brother Rajesh. Rajo claimed that she had requested police to provide security at her house or to place her and her two daughters at a secure location as there was a threat to their life after a mob had threatened to set her house ablaze, about two days after the incident of murder; but the police did not help.
 
Earlier DIG Ashok Kumar had ruled out the involvement of a mob in the incident and had claimed that prima facie, it was a case of accident or suicide. Rajo also alleged that the police had initially refused to register her complaint in this regard, while the DIG had said that police was not approached.
 
People belonging to Dalit community staged demonstrations and protested the killings and also the police inaction. Then protestors took out a march from Ambedkar Park to the place where the bodies have been kept for post mortem. They are demanding that the accused be arrested immediately.
